This year's conference of the Gesellschaft für Kanada-Studien was very memorable: For the first time in about four decades, the conference was not held in Grainau, but in Berlin. Additionally, the location was a true highlight, too, for it was the Embassy of Canada to Germany. This year's theme was "The North: Changes, Challenges, Opportunities / Le Nord: Changements, défis, opportunités" allowing for a diverse range of voices contributing to the trans- and interdisciplinary exchange. Cultural highlights after each day's talks contributed to the conference's eventful schedule, including a concert by the Inuit style throat singing duo PIQSIQ.
One tradition, however, remained unchanged: after the annual bookfair all books that did not get chosen for a review will now find their new home on our shelves at SUB Göttingen. These 22 titles include works on a wide range of topics such as ecocriticsm and Canadian law, feminist perspectives, physical education and Canadian children's literature, as well as Canadian politics or aspects of history and popular culture. Soon all of them will be added to our catalogue and will thus be available for you. A big thank you for continuing this lovely tradition goes to Jun.-Prof Dr. Nele Sawallisch and Julia Schwarzmeier at University of Trier!
We are looking forward to next year's GKS conference in Tutzing!
