A successful collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies in German-speaking Countries / Gesellschaft für Kanada-Studien in den deutschsprachigen Ländern (GKS) has again borne fruit with the addition of 44 new titles to our collection. This means they will soon be available for everyone doing research in the field of Canadian Studies.
Each year the GKS provides a hub for researchers of all things Canadian with their transdisciplinary conference. This year's topic was "Climate Change, Climate Crisis: Canadian Perspectives / Changement climatique, crise climatique: Perspectives canadiennes". The 47th annual conference was held in February in a new and picturesque location: Tutzing Castle in Tutzing on Lake Starnberg. During each GKS conference, a selection of new publications in the field of Canadian Studies finds their readers to be reviewed in the association's journal – or are alternatively given a new home in our collection. These newcomers on our shelves can be seen in the picture above. The new publications in English and French mirror the different disciplines and fields of research coming together in the GKS, from Postcolonial and Indigenous Studies to Literary and Cultural Studies, including music, media and film, as well as a variety of perspectives on Canadian history, economics, law and politics.
Some highlights of this year's conference included a film screening of short films by young, Indigenous filmmakers and the lively discussions of the keynotes by Shawn Marshall and Shelley Boulianne – and let us not forget the palpable excitement for the tombola! The lucky winner received a soapstone walrus hand-carved by an Inuit artisan.
Our gratitude goes to Barbara Gföllner, Professor Alexandra Ganser-Blumenau and Marie Krebs at the University of Vienna as well as the team of Professor Astrid Fellner (Saarland University) for the meticulous organisation of the book exhibit. Thank you on behalf of our community for keeping this tradition alive!
